Our mission:
      The West Mifflin Area High School Library Information Center is a research oriented facility that strives to give each member of the school community the opportunity to interact with information, develop a life-long love of reading and learning, and experience the independence that comes from self-directed and collaborative learning situations.  We serve the high school community by providing access to library services that would be available to them at a public library.
Our goals are to:
The Library and the Curriculum:
Provide students and faculty with research materials.
Provide students and faculty with a selection of materials for leisure reading. 
Encourage life-long learning through research.
Encourage students to establish a wide range of interests through reading and technology.
Assist students to develop information literacy skills and foster inquiry.
The Library Information Center collaborates with other curriculum areas to provide students with opportunities to develop information literacy skills.

Information literacy is defined as the ability to:
Access library resources for a variety of reasons, i.e. to meet individual needs, to complete curriculum-related activities, to carry out independent study and for personal use;
Develop a search strategy;
Select approriate print and electronic sources;
Analyze the information for relevance, quality, timeliness, accuracy, and authority;
Apply the information appropriately; and
Evaluate the process and the product.
